Special exhibitions

In addition to its permanent exhibits, the HNF has two areas devoted to an ambitious program of special exhibitions. These reflect questions concerning communication and technology, their history and current standing. All exhibitions are presented in conjunction with a range of lectures, workshops and events.

06/16 - 10/06/2002 PaperArt - 365 x at the HNF

This special exhibition presented objects of modern art by the renowned artist Dorothea Reese-Heim. It featured the multi-facetted and varied material paper in every conceivable form, using individual modes of expression and a wide range of techniques and materials such as stinging nettles and hemp. Dorothea Reese-Heim is a professor at the University of Paderborn in the Faculty of Art, Music and Design, and has already staged many exhibitions at home and abroad.

10/24/2001 - 04/28/2002 Computer.Brain

Do you think they think? This exhibition was launched at the start of the 3rd millennium to take stock of research efforts and to compare the current development status of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic with the capabilities of the human brain. Walking robots and insights into the human brain as well as unique exhibits from international research laboratories demonstrated how far development has already progressed. The exhibition was a huge success with a total of 80.495 visitors and wide media coverage.

07/02 - 09/03/2000 History of the Grammophon

Grammophones and sound carriers from the period of 1890 to 1940 explained the beginning of this fascinating aspect of musical history. Sound samples of contemporary recordings revived the charm of old songs and voices. HNF revisited the Zeitgeist of 1920s by inviting the public to a series of tea-dances that offered nostalgia as original recordings came to life around them.

10/17 - 10/25/1998 Cinematography

Focusing on the past history of films, this exhibition was launched on the occasion of the German-French Cultural Days. It presented rarities from film history - from the first "thumb-cinemas" and the invention of film to the cinematographs and early sound film documents. An insight was offered into the days of the Lumière brothers.

07/12 - 09/13/1998 World of Games

This interactive exhibition presented the history of computer games until the present day and gave visitors the chance to try out both classic and the most current computer games: for example Pac-Man, Super Mario, 3D-Tetris and Pong.

06/15 - 09/14/1997
Slot-Machines

The sixth Paderborn Podium focused on the achievement of a lucky lifestyle through educational ideals of the classics under the influence of our information society. Education, culture, personality development, staying healthy and responsibility for yourself and others are terms of central importance.
