The story of computers began about 5000 years ago with the first archaic characters. What evolved then in the separate techniques of writing, arithmetic and drawing has now been united in the universal machine that we call a computer. The bizarre paths that history took on occasion, how these paths were influenced by people, ideas, social and political issues, science and business, and, above all, how the story of computing has helped to shape and change people's lives - all these are facets of the exhibition.
