Seven years after the HNF opened its doors for the very
first time, the break-neck pace of technological development has
necessitated an update of its exhibition areas. What was state-of-the-art
technology in 1996 has largely become obsolete by the start of 2004,
and is now merely of historical interest. Seven new exhibition areas
have thus been created over 900 square metres featuring all-new
presentations of current and future trends in information technology.
The areas devoted to Nixdorf and the history of the
PC have undergone a substantial makeover.
Most of
our visitors have experienced recent IT developments in person, and
can now review the historical evidence at the HNF. The new departments
incorporate playful and interactive elements. An Avatar welcomes the
visitors, football-playing machines demonstrate their skills and computer
games old and new can be tried out. Even out-dated software versions
such as Windows 3.11 and early video games like Pong and PacMan are
included. A total of 39 new multimedia applications are available
to visitors.
As well as updating its exhibition and giving it a more future-oriented
flavour, the HNF hopes that the restructuring measures will serve
its basic objectives, which are to help people find their bearings
in an increasingly complex world, to impart media skills and to take
a critical look at the information technology of today and tomorrow.
